Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower the number of welding steps and obtain a defect-free weld zone by subjecting a square butt weld groove part where the butt parts of a body and a flange are inclined in the diametral direction of the body to electron beam welding.
CONSTITUTION: In case the outside diameter of a flange is larger than the outside diameter of a body, these are welded and constituted in a way as to have a square groove 6 of an angle θ of inclination on the flange 2a side, after which an electron beam 7 is irradiated from the outside diameter side of the body, whereby full penetration welding is cccomplished. Similary, if the inside diameter of the flange is smaller than the inside diameter of a shaft, a square groove of an angle θ of inclination is welded and constituted to the flange 2b side, after which welding is carried out from the outside diameter side of the body. Since the vertical stress acting upon the rolled surface of a thick plate flange material decreases by inclining the electron beam weld line from said rolling surface, weld cracks such as lamellar tears are eliminated.
