Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an Al alloy having properties of increasing the strength and reducing the elongation by natural aging by adding a specified percentage of Zn and Mg to Al.
CONSTITUTION: Al contg. 3.5W4.5wt% Zn and 0.2W0.5wt% Mg is prepared. This Al alloy has low tensile strength and high elongation immediately after soln. heat treatment, yet it shows superior aging properties which brings high tensile strength and low elongation after aging. The Al alloy may contain impurities inevitable in the manufacture such as Fe, Si and Cr in a range in which the characteristics of the alloy are not changed. This material is suitable for use as a roll bonding material.
