Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable a tool to be detected with respect to not only damage growth but also damage form by a detector for storing coded patterns of behavior of each signal in cutting process to judging said damages immediately after the detection of the behavior. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece 5 is mounted on a lathe to be cut by a tool 6. Then, a signal detecting section 7 detects main component of force, feed component and back component of force and vibrational acceleration of the lathe, a memory section 8 extracts and stores in the form of pattern the variation of each signal accompanying cutting process and further a monitoring section 9 monitors the behavior of each signal during cutting. When any defective behaviors are detected during monitoring of monitoring section 9, condition in the detection of the defective behavior, condition of variation of each signal preset in the memory section 8 during the cutting process and variation pattern preset in a damage pattern setting section 11 are compared and collated with each other by a judging section 10. The result of discriminating the presence of damage growth and the damage form of the tool is generated as the output of an output section 12 according to the collation of this judging section 10.
