Abstract

PURPOSE:To immediately and surely detect the damage of a rotary blade by restoring pulse motor to its initial state to stop the operation when a rotary blade is damaged at the beginning of, or during, machining. CONSTITUTION:When a rotary blade 1 is damaged, the approach of the rotary blade 1, being rotated, toward an edge of wafer 3 produces no or little contact between the rotary blade 1 and wafer 3, which results in a very low output voltage from a high-frequency microphone 7. Therefore, the output signal at a comparison circuit 11 becomes very low during the period where an output signal at a fixed circuit 14 for cutting range shows high level. Thus, the damage of the rotary blade 1 is detected. Also, when the rotary blade 1 is damaged during timing, the output voltage of the microphone 7 lowers, which, through a circuit 13, stops a motor 6 for traverse feeding, descends a motor 5 for vertical feeding, and stops the operation.
