Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable an electrode to be moved at a first at high speed thereby to reduce a time required therefore unitl the completion of positioning of the electrode by detecting approaching of the electrode to a workpiece from a discharging current so as to cause the speed of a feed motor to be dropped before the electrode is brought into contact with the workpiece. CONSTITUTION:When an electrode 1 comes nearer to a workpiece 2 than a predetermined distance during movement of a work table 8 at a high speed by a feed motor 6, a corona discharging is caused to appear between the electrode 1 and the workpiece 2. Consequently, a minute current is caused to flow through a resistor 12 so that a voltage appears across the resistor 12. This voltage is input to a drive controlling circuit 10 through a corona discharging detecting circuit 13. Upon reception of the signal, the drive controlling circuit 10 stops the feed motor 6. Thus, the feed motor 6 can be driven at first at a high speed, thereby enabling reduction of a time required therefor until the completion of the positioning of the electrode.
