Abstract

PURPOSE: To seal a shaft at high pressure and improve its sealing quality in a shaft sealing device where a plurality of sealing members are axially provided from a high pressure side to low pressure side with a distance apart, by introducing pressure at an equal pressure difference for each sealing member to a space between the sealing members.
CONSTITUTION: A two-stage shaft sealing device, in which an engine main unit 1 is divided into a working gas space 2 extended through a piston rod 4 and a driving chamber 3, consists mainly of the first and second seals 7, 8 at the lower side, and a space 9 is formed between the seals 7, 8. Here pressure Po in a gas sump 5 of the engine main unit 1 is introduced to a gas pressure adjusting device 10 to obtain prescribed pressure P1 (=Po/2), and this pressure P1 is introduced to the space 9. In this way, difference pressure applied to the seals 7, 8 is equalized, then the shaft sealing becomes capable at high pressure. The gas pressure adjusting device 10 is electrically conducted to flow a current in a solenoid 23 and move downward a piston 12 against a spring 25, thus the pressure P1 of Po/2 can be taken out from an output side connection part 22.
