Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively control the negative pressure in a diaphragm chamber in accordance with th state of engine load by a method wherein a valve holding member equipped between the diaphragm chamber and a chamber open to the atmosphere is adjustably supported by a plurality of balance springs and a moving rod. CONSTITUTION:When engine load increases, a coil 42 is excited through a load sensor 45 and a operational processing circuit 46 in order to apply an attractive force to a gap 44. Accordingly, even under the condition that the negative pressure in the diaphragm chamber is low, the force of the spring 34 surpasses that of the spring 35, resulting in shifting the moving rod 36 downward, lowering the valve holding member 32 and communicating the diaphragm chamber 26 to the chamber open to the atmosphere 39. Consequently, when the pressures in both the chambers 26 and 39 are equal to each other, the valve holding member 32 is raised by means of the spring 35 and the diaphragm chamber 26 is made vacuum for the setting of negative pressure by means of a vacuum pump 31. In other words, the setting of negative pressure can be performed in accordance with the state of engine load.
