Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent eh monitor of welding operation from becoming impossible due to the generation of bubbles in the water while the welding operation is performed, by forming an aspiration chamber with double waterstop walls made of elastic material around the working room for welding and fitting a discharge gas sucking pipe to the aspiration chamber, in locally dried type underwater welding equipment.
CONSTITUTION: When underwater weldings are performed, a working chamber 23 is constituted, on a material 14 to be wleded, with a ring-shaped transparent slide plate 11, a ring-shaped supporting plate 13, and an inner supporting wall 19 plus an outer supporting wall 20 made of an elastic material. To the slide plate 11, a welding torch 16 is inserted through a sealing member 17, and an aspiration chamber 26 is constituted between the outer and inner supporting walls 19 and 20, and, at the same time, a discharge gas sucking pipe 27 is fitted to a supporting frame 21. The inside of the working chamber 23 is drained and the material 14 to be welded is arc-welded with the welding torch 16. The discharge gas generated during the course of the welding becomes high in pressure and enters the aspiration chamber 26 by removing the inner waterstop wall 19, and then, is removed through the discharge gas sucking pipe 27. Therefore, no discharge gas leaks into the water and no bubbles which interfere monitor of the welding are generated.
