Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the dielectric failure of a lamp even when it is located in water, by connecting the end of a lead wire with an insulating sheath on an outside projection of an electrode, providing an issulating tube around the joint, and filling an insulating resin in the tube. CONSTITUTION:An end of a core wire of a lead wire 25, the lead wire 25 is a wire with an insulating sheath 25b covering a core wire 25a, is welded on the outside projection of an electrode 19. A joint of the electrode 19 and core wire 25a is covered with an insulating tube 26 consisting of silicone rubber, one end is engaged firmly on the external peripheral surface of a glass tube 6, and the other end is faced against the insulating sheath 25b of the lead wire 25 to overlap. Furthermore, epoxy resin 27 is filled in the tube 26 to cover the end of the glass tube 6, the outside projection of the elecrode 19, core wire 25a, and end of the insulating sheath 25b, and a space between a stem 7a and the tube 26 is also filled with epoxy resin 28. Thus, the dielectric failure can be prevented even when the discharge lamp is located in water.
