Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the heat accumulating capacity in the case of accumulating the heat of exhaust gases for heating the interior of a vehicle or the like, by a method wherein two heat accumulator are provided in an exhaust system for an internal-combustion engine and the distribution of exhaust-gas flows into the heat accumulators is controlled in accordance with the temperature of the exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: When the engine is operated under a high load and the exhaust gas temperature is not lower than a predetermined temperature, a solenoid valve 14 is opened by a signal from a sensor 13 to cause the exhaust gas to flow into the second heat accumulator 16. The heat accumulator 16 is a high-temperature type one so that it can accumulate the heat of the high-temperature exhaust gas entirely. Namely, the heat of the exhaust gas is accumulated in the first heat accumulator 2 when the temperature of the gas is low, and when the temperature of the exhaust gas is elevated, the heat of the gas is accumulated in the second heat accumulator 16. Accordingly, the need for releasing a portion of the exhaust gas without passing it through any heat accumulator is eliminated, making it possible to effectively accumulate the entire amount of waste heat.
