Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an operation diagnosis apparatus, which permits diagnosis of the operation of an EGR valve in the loaded state of a vehicle simply by checking whether the operation is right or not through measurement of the difference in the intake negative pressure between the operative and inoperative states of the EGR valve.
CONSTITUTION: In a system provided with a carburetor 1, a throttle vlave 2, a negative pressure passage 3, an EGR valve 4, an EGR passage 5 and an engine 6, a running resistance load is applied to the engine 6 by a diamometer 7, and the load can be set to a desired value by suitably selecting the combination of load selection switches 8 with a processing unit 9. The throttle valve 2 is controlled through a control unit 10, and the intake load is detected by a negative pressure converter 11, the output of which is coupled to the processing unit 9. At the time of the diagnosis, the intake negative pressure values of the loads B and C are compared, and the operative and inoperative states of the EGR valve 4 are diagnosed from the size of the difference. Load A represents intake negative pressure at the time of the operation of the valve 4.
