Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the air-fuel ratio from being controlled to an abnormal value, by producing an O2- sensor abnormality signal when the temperature of cooling water is high and the following conditions are satisfied that the air-fuel ratio is not under open loop control and an activation signal of the O2- sensor is not given continuously for a prescribed time period.
CONSTITUTION: An air-fuel ratio controlling system shown in the drawing comprises an ECU (electronic control unit) 6 which controls a pulse motor 5 for operating an air-fuel ratio controlling valve attached to a carburetor so as to feedback control the air-fuel ratio to a required value in response to an output signal V of an O2- sensor. The ECU6 includes an O2- sensor activation detecting circuit 61 for producing an activation signal of the O2- sensor and an engine condition detecting circuit 65 for detecting the open loop control of the air-fuel ratio. Further, the ECU6 is provided additionally with a fail-safe system A, which includes an abnormal ity judging circuit 75 for producing an abnormality signal when a high-temperature signal is produced by a circuit 74 for detecting the temperature of cooling water and the following conditions are satisfied that not open-looped signal is given and no activation signal is given continuously for a prescribed time period.
