Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a device which performs instruction prefetching processing and branch-instruction processing smoothly and has hardware reduced, by generating the logical address of a storage device by discriminating between inputs to an address adder when a branch instruction is executed and when not. CONSTITUTION:A detecting circuit 118 checks whether the instruction code part 119 of a following instruction stored in the 2nd instruction register 103 shows a branch instruction or not. When instruction prefetching is indicated, switching circuits 123-125 receive and output the contents of an instruction base address register 114, those of an instruction relative address register 115 and the number of instruction readout word length to an address adder 116, thereby generating the logical address of the prefetch instruction. In case of a branch instruction, a base register number part 120, the contents of the register specified by an index register number part, and displacement 122 are outputted to the address adder to generate the branch address of the branch instruction.
