Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone-2-sulfonic acid useful in the dye industry, in high yield, by oxidazing leuco-1,4-diaminoanthraquinone with air in a solvent, and then racting with chlorosulfonic acid.
CONSTITUTION: Leuco-1,4-diaminoanthraquinone available at a low cost is used as a starting material, and is oxidized with air in an inert solvent such as chlorobenzene, tetrachloroethane, etc., at 100W180°C, pref. in the presence of a catalyst such as cobalt ammonium molybdate, etc. The resultant 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone is, without separating from the reaction products, reacted with chlorosulfonic acid in a solvent at 100W170°C. The objective compound can be prepared by this process in high purity and yield, without using complicated procedures.
