Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain cyclopentene from a mixture of 5C hydrocarbons efficiently in high purity, by utilizing a cationic polymerization reaction of cyclopentene with 1,3- pentadiene and difference of reactivity in hydrogenation.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of hydrocarbons containing cyclopentene and 1,3- pentadiene is treated in the presence of a catalyst for cationic polymerization in the reactor 2, to polymerize a large amount of 1,3-pentadine. The reaction mixture is introduced to the recovery tank 4 to recover a mixture of unreacted hydrocarbons. The mixture of recovered hydrocarbons is distilled, if necessary, and it is brought into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst in the hydrogenation reactor 7, so that the remaining 1,3-pentadiene in hydrogenated into n-pentene. Substances derived from the hydrogenation process are distilled by the distillation column 9, the distillates are separated into a low-boiling fraction containing n- pentene and a high-boiling fraction containing cyclopentene, and, if necessary, the high-boiling fraction is distilled by the distillation column 12 to give cyclopentene from the pipe 14.
