Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the miniaturization and mass production of a magnetic effect element, by a method wherein, in a rotary detector employing the magnetic resistance effect element, a bridge circuit consistion of a magnetic resistance element on said element is improved. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic resistance effect element 5 (MR element) is constituted such that 6 thin film magnetic resistance elements R1-R4, R7, and R8, which are made of a strongly magnetic material, are formed on a substrate 5a. Two bridge circuits of R1-R4 and R1-R2-R3-R4, in which the magnetic resistane elements R1 and R2 are formed into a common side, consist of feeding terminals V1 and V2 and detecting terminals a, b, and c. The common side R1-R2 is spaced away from a magnetic medium 4 to be measured, and other sides are positioned in the proximity of the medium. A first bridge side R3-R4 and a second bridge side R7-R8 are displaced in position by theta/4 from each other and the sides of said bridges are displaced in position by theta/2 from each other, where theta is 1/2 a wavelength of a magnetic signal. This reduces a necessary number of the magnetic resistance elements, miniaturizes the MR element, enables the easy evaporating formation of the magnetic resistance element, and permits the mass production of the MR element.
