Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the burnout of tuyeres by blowing fire resistant powder together with gaseous oxygen thereby forming by firing a protecting layer in the leading end part of the tuyere in a tuyere immersed in bath for blowing gaseous oxygen into molten iron. CONSTITUTION:If fire resistant powder 6 is blown together with gaseous oxygen for refining into a tuyer 3 constituted of a single pipe, the powder 6 penetrates into oxides such SiO2, MnO2, FeO, formed at the reaction point near the tuyere 3, whereby a protection layer 7 of high heat resistance is formed. CaO, CaCO3, MgO, MgCO3, calcined dolomite, Al2O3, etc. are used as the powder 6. It is equally well to use double-ply pipes for the tuyere 3 and to blow gaseous oxygen through the inside pipe and the fire resistant powder together with gaseous oxygen through the outside pipe.
