Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the inclusion of sulfur contents into an iron or steel bath while providing necessary strength by dividing granulation to a base grain forming period and a shell forming period for forming firm shell layers on the outside of the base grains, and changing the cement formulation in the raw materials used in the respective forming periods. CONSTITUTION:Iron-contg. powder and granules such as rolling sludge, converter dust, powder iron one and the like are so compounded that fine powder components of <=44mu are contained at >=80%. A small amt. of cement setting agent necessary for forming base grains and maintaining their shapes is added and these are mixed under controlled humidity so as to contain 11-15% water, after which the mixture is granulated by rolling to allow the contained water to ooze on the surfaces. Said base grains are then rolled in covering powder consisting of iron-contg. powder in a dry state, and a cement setting agent of an amt. necessary for formation of shell layers of required strength, whereby the covering powder is stuck on their surfaces and the shell layers are formed.
