Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable an elongate molded body having small specific gravity to be produced through cross-linking under heating, by immersing a molded body of a cross-linkable rubber or plastic in a molten heating medium consisting of an inorganic salt and hollow, spherical minute particles of an inorganic material.
CONSTITUTION: The molded body of the cross-linkable rubber or plastic is cross- linked under heating by immersing the molded body in the molten heating medium which consists of 97.5W50wt% of an inorganic salt and 2.5W50wt% of the hollow, spherical minute particles of an inorganic material. As the inorganic salt in the molten medium, an inorganic salt which is solid at ordinary temperatures and has a melting point of not higher than the decomposition temperature of the rubber or plastic, particularly those having a melting point of 250°C or lower, may preferably be used. In addition, those having a smaller specific gravity, for instance, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate and the like are preferable. As the hollow minute particles of inorganic material, those containing silica, borosilicate glass or the like as a main material and having a specific gravity of about 0.2W0.6 and a particle size of about 100μ may preferably be used.
