Abstract

1331485 Producing glass beads XEROX CORP 14 Oct 1970 [23 Oct 1969] 48787/70 Heading C1M [Also in Division G2] Spherical glass beads are formed by heating isolated glass particles, in solid or molten form, in individual impressions in a non-wetting support to a temperature at which the glass particles are drawn up by surface tension into spherical glass beads, and cooling and recovering the beads. The glass beads preferably are of particle diameter 30-1000 Á. The heating may be to 1200-2210‹ F. The support may be of graphite, chromium oxide, iron oxide, zirconium oxide, aluminium oxide or ball clays, and the process may be operated continuously. The beads may be used as the carrier in an electrostatographic developer.
