Abstract
PURPOSE:To check the working fault of an error correcting circuit, by obtaining an exclusive OR among a check bit part of the read data, the output of a syndrome generator and the output of a check bit generator, respectively. CONSTITUTION:The data read out of a memory and a check bit (CB) are set to a register RRO and supplied to a syndrome generator 2 to produce a syndrome (SD). The SD is set to a register S, and the CB of the RRO is set to an RR1. An error detecting circuit 5 analyzes the contents of the register S and sets the error information to a register E. When a correctable error is detected by the circuit 5, a signal is sent to an error correcting circuit 6. The data part of the RRO is set to a register WR1 through a merging circuit 4 and a CB generator 1. An exclusive OR is obtained through an EOR3 among the CB of a WR1, the SD bit of the register S and the CB of the RR1, and this result is set to the register E. As a result, the action can be confirmed for the generators 1 and 2.
