Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the optimum flaw detection covering ratio by providing a dummy material having a specified size between specified probes of a plurality of probes which are arranged in the longitudinal direction of a material to be checked. CONSTITUTION:In the method of arranging the probes of a flaw detecting device which spirally scans the material to be checked having a circular cross section by using the probes in order to detect the flaws, a pluarlity of probes 3a-3d are arranged in one line in the longitudinal direction of the material to be checked at the positions equally separated on the circumference of the material to be checked 1. The dummy material 4 is inserted between the desired probes so that the interval between the probes can be varied in response to the flaw detection covering ratio. The dummy material is used to provide a specified interval between the probes and can be readily inserted or removed. It is made of a light weight material which is not corroded by the water for a contact medium. The flaw detection covering ratio can be readily varied only by changing the position of the dummy material.
