Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound without troubles of apparatus corrosion nor use of the post-treatment other than distillation, and recycling the catalyst, by reacting dicyclopentadiene with a polyhydric alcohol in the presence of a heteropolyacid or its acid salt as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Dicyclopentadiene polyol monoether is prepared by reacting dicyclopentadiene with a polyhydric alcohol using a heteropolyacid or its acid salt (e.g. silicotungstic acid, phosphotungstic acid, etc.) as a catalyst. The amount of the catalyst is 0.05W10wt% of the dicyclopentadiene. After the completion of the reaction, the reaction product is neutralized with a solid such as alkali metal hydroxide, etc., and distilled without interruption to obtain the objective compound. A huge cost for the waste water treatment can be saved.
USE: Modifier for polyester resin, alkyd resin, etc.
