Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the power factor of a welding electric power source and to reduce no-load losses by inserting thyristors and a reactor which are antiparallel connected in opposite directions in series to between the intermediate tap provided to the primary winding of a welding transformer and one input terminal.
CONSTITUTION: In a single phase or three phase welding transformer 11, a reactor 13 is connected in series to two pieces of thyristors 12 which are antiparallel connected in mutually opposite directions. One end of such reactor 13 is connected to one of input terminals and one end of the thyristors 12 to the intermediate tap on the primary side, respectively. Thereby, the power factor of the welding electric power source is improved and since the output is cntrolled on the primary side of the transformer 11, no-load losses are reduced.
