Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of NO generation in a direct injection type engine by a method wherein the pressure in an initial injection prior to high pressure injection is reduced by fitting a buffer-use depression on top of a plunger in a fuel injection pump.
CONSTITUTION: When the top end of a plunger 4 of a fuel injection pump is higher than a fuel support port 3 in an exhaust phase, fuel over the top end pushes up a delivery valve 5 and extrudes fuel into an injection tube to eject. With this structure, an initial injection pressure is decreased by introducing fuel into a depression 41 at the initial stage of exhaust process to restrict the amount of fuel injected into a combustion chamber. By this technique, an initial injection pressure can be reduced as much as possible even on gaining a high pressure injection, so that the amount of NO generation can be reduced.
