Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the generation of combustion noise and NOx especially at the time of low load by providing a two-staged plunger in a fuel injection pump for enabling to change the rate of injection in accordance with the state of operation.
CONSTITUTION: In a housing 1, a plunger 4 is slid to rotate and reciprocate as interlocking with an engine. The plunger 4 consists of a small-diameter part 4a and a large-diameter part 4b, and provides the first pressure chamber 6 and the second pressure chamber 7. The first chamber 6 supplies pressurized fuel into an unillustrated injection valve via a pass hole 11, a distribution groove 12, and a discharge passage 13. The second chamber 7 is connected to the pass hole 11 via a connecting passage 14 with a one-way valve 16, and also to a pump chamber 2 via an escape passage 17 provided with a valve 18a to be opened at the time of low load by an electromagnetic control valve 18 which receives the signal of a computer 19. This construction permits to reduce the rate of injection at the time of low load.
