PURPOSE:To maintain the performance of the process liquid and reduce the running cost with increased life of the ion exchange resin by means of a precoating layer, which consists of a mixture of diatom earth and active carbon and is formed on the filter surface. CONSTITUTION:A precoating layer 42 which consists of a mixture of diatom earth and active carbon is formed on the surface of a filter 28 in a process liquid circulating device 16. Process liquid 10 which results after a discharge process in a processing tank 12 and contains sludge, is fed to an exhaust tank 22. Heavy sludge is precipitated in the tank 22, and process liquid 10 containing light sludge is forced out by a pressurizing pump 26 to the filter 28. In the filter 28, sludge and other matter of particle sizes in excess of 2-1mu are removed by paper, cloth, etc., and sludge and impurities below 2-1mu are removed by a layer 42. The performance of the process liquid 10 thus can be maintained, and the life of the ion exchange resin can be extended.
