Abstract

PURPOSE: To attach impurities, e.g. metallic soap, scum or metallic powder, in a lubricating oil to an electrically conductive rotating member and remove the impurities efficiently, by immersing the electrically conductive rotating member in a lubricating oil tank provided with electrically conductive plates, and applying a potential difference across the electrically conductive plates and the member.
CONSTITUTION: An electrically conductive rotating member 6 is immersed in a lubricating oil tank 1 provided with electrically conductive plates 7. Alternatively, electrically conductive endless belts (9a) and (9b) are placed opposite in the lubricating oil tank 1 and connected to a direct current power source 4. The resultant positive and negative electrodes are rotated simultaneously, and positively and negatively charged impurities, e.g. metallic soap, scum or metallic powder, are attached to the endless belts (9a) and (9b) constituting the corresponding electrodes respectively and removed. The removal of coarse impurities by a strainer or simple filtering apparatus as a pretreatment reduces the electric power consumption and proides a high efficiency.
