Abstract
PURPOSE: To effectively wash a filter material while effluence of the filter material is prevented by a method wherein a filter material comprising two layers of anthracite and silica sand is subjected to air washing in such a condition that residual water is little and, subsequently, surface washing and backwashing due to washing water are carried out together.
CONSTITUTION: Into a filter tank filled with an anthracite layer A, a silica sand layer B and a support gravel layer C, raw water to be filtered is introduced from a pipe 7 and, after passed through the filter layer, flowed out as treated water through pipes 10 and 8. In a backwashing process, supply of raw water is stopped at first and residual untreated water in the tank 1 is discharged through pipes 7, 6. Subsequently, air is blown into the filter material layer for 3W5min by a blower 4 and, after air blowing is stopped, backwashing water is introduced into the filter material layer through pipes 9 and 10 and, at the same time, surface washing water is scattered on a surface of the filter tank from a nozzle through a pipe 12 by a pump 5.
