Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound which is an antimicrobial agent and antitumor agent in high yield in the respective steps, by reacting a novel specific tricyclic condensed compound which is relatively easily available at a low cost as a raw material with a base and then an acid, and reacting the reaction product with a peroxide and then a base, and epoxidizing the resultant compound.
CONSTITUTION: A novel compound of formula II obtained from a novel compound of formula I as a raw material is reacted with a base, e.g. sodium hydride, in a solvent, e.g. ether, and then with an acid to give a compound of formula III. The resultant compund of formula III is then reacted with a peroxide, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, in a solvent, e.g. dichloromethane, to afford a compound of formula IV, which is then reacted with a base, e.g. lithium diisopropylamide in a solvent, e.g. benzene, to give a compund of formula V. The resultant compound of formula V is then epoxidized with an alkali, e.g. sodium carbonate, and a peroxide, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, in a solvent, e.g. dioxane, to give (±)-coriolin of formula VI.
