Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce pump loss and to improve fuel consumption, in time of a drive of low speed and load, by a method wherein a cylinder group having output-priority type combustion chambers and a cylinder group having a main combustion part and a plurality of sub-combustion parts are arranged.
CONSTITUTION: In a multiple cylinder engine, combustion chambers in some cylinders 4, 10 are of the output priority type end comprise cylinder group A. The combustion chamber 170 in the other cylinders 6, 8 is composed of a main combustion part 172 of relatively large volume and sub-combustion parts 174, 176 of relatively small volume located on the circumferential part thereof and comprises cylinder group B. Besides, the sub-combustion parts 174, 176 are connected to the main combustion part 172 through jet holes 216, 198 and respectively have ignition plugs 206, 208. In the said constitute, in time of a low speed and load drive, combustion stops in cylinder group A and operates in cylinder group B only. In this case, jet flow supplied through het holes 216, 198 collides and becomes turbulent in the main combustion part 172, so that the combustion efficiency improves.
