Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the use of costly burning resistance sand and to improve burning resistance with simple molding work by removing a master mold and submolds after molding sand has set, and coating the burning resistant sand on the surface of the mold after removal of the submolds.
CONSTITUTION: Submolds 2 are projectively fitted in proper places on the surface of a master mold 1 in contact therewith. This is disposed in a molding flask 3, and ordinary molding sand 4 is built up on the surface of a wooden pattern. Backing sand 5 is filled on the outer circumferential side thereof and the sands 4 and 5 are allowed to harden. Thence, the master mold 1 and the submolds 2 are removed, and burning resistant sand 7 such as zircon sand or chromite sand is coated in the recesses 6 on the mold surface after removal of the submolds 2 to shape the surface, whereby the mold of good burning resistance is obtained.
