Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve mechanical characteristics, chemical resistance, etc., by covering the outer circumference of a glass fiber for optical transmission with a covering material consisting essentially of a heat curing type organopolysiloxane composite and by further covering it with fluoroplastics. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber is covered with the 1st coating layer with 20- 50mum thickness consisting of normal-temperature curing type organoplysiloxane composite, such as phenylpolysiloxane, having an introduced phenyl group at the side chain of a silozane skeleton, and then the 2nd covering layer 4 having 50- 300mum thickness and consisting of normal-temperature curing type dimenthyl polysiloxane composite is provided. Further, the 3rd coating layer 5 consisting of heat curing type organopolysiloxane composite having the side chain of a methyl group at a siloxane skeleton is provided on the 2nd layer and the 4th covering layer 6 of fluoroplastics, such as tetrapolyfluoroethylene, is provided to from an optical fiber core.
