Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent generation of thermal stress in strands by providing a degree of freedom between the covering parts of the optical fibers to be fixed to a substrate by cover bodies and the strands therein. CONSTITUTION:The ends of both optical fibers 1, 1' are fitted into the V-groove 6 of a substrate 5, and with this V-groove 6 as a guide, the end faces of the bare strand parts 4, 4' of the said two optical fibers 1, 1' are butted in the approximate center of the substrate 5. Further, cover bodies 7 and 8, 8' are superposed on the top surface of the substrate 5 so as to cover said bare strand parts 4, 4' and the covering parts 3, 3' remained without removed, respectively, whereby the bare strand parts 4, 4' and strand parts 3, 3' are fixed to the substrate. At this time, the covering parts 3, 3' covering the bare strand parts 4, 4' at the end of the strand parts 2, 2' and the strand parts 2, 2' are fixed to the said substrate 5, but the strand parts 2, 2' have a degree of freedom at least in the axial direction with respect to the covering parts 3, 3' and can move relatively in the same direction.
