Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the gloss of a plating layer, by controlling an electric current density in a specific relation relating to the rate of a steel plate passing through a plating bath when forming a zinc electroless plating layer having excellent gloss on the surface of a steel plate in the plating bath with a zinc chloride base.
CONSTITUTION: After cleaning of the surface of a steel plate to be zinc plated, the steel plate is passed as an cathode through a plating bath which contains 100W 350g/l ZnCl2 and 100W400g/l at least one compound of NH4Cl, KCl, NaCl, AlCl3, BaCl2, CaCl2, FeCl2, FeCl3, MgCl2 and MnCl2, having a pH value of 1W7 and having a temperature of 40W70°C to be electroplated. In this process, the current density is controlled so that a numerical relation of 18×u1/2≥S≥0.4× u+20 is retained between a current density S(A/dm2) and the rate of a steel plate passing through the plating bath u (m/min). Thus the gloss of a zinc electroplating layer is markedly improved.
