Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a thyristor converter from hazardous condition as a short- circuit trouble at a capacitor or that at the power source of a pulse generator by providing power source compensating capacitors at each gate pulse generating portion of each valve. CONSTITUTION:Each valve of a thyristor converter (not shown) is controlled by the light-beam output from an LED4 of a gate pulse generating part 3 which corresponds to each of the valves. Each gate pulse generating part 3 is connected to a DC source 8A which is to apply a voltage to the LED4 and a DC source 8B which operates a gate controlling circuit 7 which is to drive a transistor Tr5 which controls the current to the diode 4. Power source compensating capacitors 9, 10 and a diode 12 are connected between the DC source 8A, 8B and each pulse generating part 3. It is possible to make gate-block at each valve unit even when a short circuit trouble of, for instance, the capacitor 9 or the controlling circuit 7 occurs.
