Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent operating trouble by gypsum scaling and remove COD stably by using the gypsum produced at the removal of COD in waste water as a carrier, depositing cultured and propagated sulfur bacteria on this and using the same.
CONSTITUTION: The gypsum mud having beforehand been adsorbed with sulfur bacteria is added to an oxidation tank 1, and the waste water contg. sulfur oxides and Ca is passed at 2l/min rate for 60 days through a supplying port 4. The waste water supplied to the tank 1 contacts the gypsum particles, and is oxidized in a suspended state by the fluidization owing to the air flow blown through an air blow pipe 5. The sulfur bacteria adsorbed on gypsum particles are cultured and propagated by the sulfur oxides in the waste water as energy sources, thereby adsorbing and sticking on the gypsum surfaces. Upon completion of the oxidation, the greater part of gypsum particles contg. the sulfur bacteria propagated in the tank 1 settle in a settling tank 2, and return through a communicating port 3 below the tank 2 to the tank 1, thereby they are repeatedly used.
