Abstract

PURPOSE: To allow fuel vapor to flow over the entire part of an adsorbent layer, and to enhance the utilization efficiency of the adsorbent by laminating foamed activated carbon having cellular structure of three-dimensional network shapes and granular active carbon thereby constituting the adsorbent layer in a titled device for automobiles.
CONSTITUTION: Foamed activated carbon 13 obtained by being treated together with polyurethane foam, lignin and methyl cellulose is packed between granular active carbons 11, 12 in the state that it is interposed by way of filters 14 and 15, as the adsorbent in a resin-made vessel 8 for a fuel evaporation preventing device provided with a fuel vapor lead-in pipe 1, a lead-out pipe 2, for a gaseous mixture and a desorbing air lead-in port 9. The fuel vapor entering from a pipe 16 through the pipe 1 partly flows to the upper layer area of the granular activated carbon 12 because of the presence of the foamed activated carbon 13 of small pass resistance and the filters 14, 15 and the rest spreads in the activated carbon 13 and flows through over the entire part of the granular activated carbon 11 in the lower layer.
