Abstract

PURPOSE:To extend the life of a copper mold and uniformly solidify molten metal by providing an electromagnetic stirring inductor into a cooling water lead-in chamber in a mold water jacket, cooling the inductor by the cooling water supplied to the mold and supplying the warmed up cooling water to the copper mold. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic stirrer in a mold which rotates the molten metal teemed into a mold 1 for production of continuously cast ingots by means of electromagnetic effect. An electromagnetic stirring inductor 13 is provided in a cooling water lead-in chamber 9 of a mold water jacket. While the cooling water supplied from a water supply port 8 is cooling the inductor 13, it is warmed up and is fed by pressure from the opening part 17 in the bottom end part of an inside cylinder 2 into a water path 7. Since the water is fed by pressure into the water path 7 of a small section in this way, the warmed up cooling water increases its velocity, and is effectively removed of the heat transmitted by the mold 1. The molten metal in the mold is softly cooled by the warmed up cooling water, and solidifies gradually uniformly.
