Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively obtain a sheet which is constant in thickness and is free from inclusion of suspended solids by forming an arc-shaped paddle by surface tension on the molten metal conducted to the slit opening at the leadig end of a nozzle, and allowing a revolving cooling disc to contact with this paddle.
CONSTITUTION: A refractory ingate body 3 forming a hollow shape in section in the upper opening is immersed in the molten metal 2 in a tank 1 down to prescribed depth. A nozzle 4 having a slit 5 of small width is disposed roughly at the center in the bottom part of the body 3. This nozzle 4 conducts the molten metal 2 in the tank 1 to the top end opening through the slit 5, and supplies the same onto the surface of the disc 6 rotating above this. The molten metal 2 in the top end opening part of the slit 5 forms an arc-shaped paddle 2' by surface tension. Therefore, the width of the top end opening part of this slit 5 is preferably about ≤4mm, more preferably about 1W3mm, and the space between the disc 6 and the paddle 2' is so determined that the contact between both is about 2W3mm. The lowering of a refractory block 7 is so adjusted as to maintain the surface level of the molten metal 2 constant.
