Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance refining efficiency by a mechanism wherein a cylinder made from a refractory material is vertically immersed within molten metal so as to permeate through a slag layer and a gas is supplied into a cylinder from the vicinity of a lower portion of a cylinder to recirculate metal between inside and outside of a cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: A cylinder 5 comprising a refractory material having one or more of flow out ports 6 at an upper portion thereof is vertically immersed in molten metal 2 within a lodle 1 so as to pierce through a slag layer 7 and a gas such as Ar or the like is blown into a cylinder 5 from a predetermined position in the vicinity of a lower end of a cylinder 5 through a gas conduit 3 to generate gas bubbles 3'. Molten metal 2 within a cylinder 5 is raised by gas bubbles 3' and flowed out from a flow out port 6 to the outside of a cylinder. Gas bubbles 3' are discharged to atomosphere from a surface of molten steel. When a cylinder 5 is inserted, a slag removing plate made from an umbrela shaped thin steel plate is provided at a leading end of a cylinder to prevent slag 7 from entering into a cylinder 5 and reaction of slag 7 and molten steel 2 by gas bubbles 3' during treatment is prevented.
