Abstract
PURPOSE:To remove the dissolved gases contained in molten metal extremely effectively from the molten metal with an in-line system by providing an ingate to the flow passage of a pouring spout, and further providing a vacuum degassing cell across this ingate. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal 2 of Al or its alloy in a heat insulating furnace 1 flows through a tap hole 4 into a casting spout 5. The molten metal 2 is dammed up by an ingate 6, and is sucked up into a degassing cell 7 through an ascending pipe 8 immersed on the upper stream side thereof by the gas lift effect of the inert gas such as N2 introduced there through a porous nozzle 11 from a supply pipe 10. Here, the metal 2 scatters explosively and is exposed to the vacuum maintained by a vacuum pump 12, whereby the effective degassing is effected. The metal 2 subjected to the degassing treatment returns into the spout 5 by passing through a downflow pipe 9 immersed in the lower stream side of the ingate, and is conducted to a casting device not shown.
