Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a method of incinerating chromium containing sludge, which is capable of preventing formation of hexavalent chromium, by burning sludge under the presence of a smaller amount of air than the theoretical amount of air liquired for combustion of the sludge, and effecting complete combustion of exhaust gas after separating ash contained in the exhaust gas.
CONSTITUTION: Pre-dehydrated and pre-dried chromium containing sludge 1 is supplied consistently, by a consistent feeder 4, into a fluidized incinerator 3 which is fluidized by primary air supplied by a primary-air blower 2. Here, oxidation of chromium contained in the sludge is prevented by making the amount of primary air supplied by the blower 2 smaller than the theoretical amount of air required for burning the sludge supplied and thus causing incomplete combustion of sludge while keeping a reducing atmosphere in the indinerator 3. Exhaust gas 5 produced in the incinerator 5 is carried into a secondary combustion chamber 8 after separating ash 7 in a cyclone 6. In the secondary combustion chamber 8, exhaust gas 5 is burned completely by secondary air supplied from a secondary-air blower 9 and then discharged to the outside after recovering heat at a waste-heat boiler 10.
