Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic Ni-Fe alloy with superior magnetic characteristics, high hardness and high magnetic flux density by blending Fe with a specified amount of Ni, Ti, Nb, C and Mg.
CONSTITUTION: This magnetic Ni-Fe alloy consists of, by wt., 75W84.9% Ni, 0.5W 5% Ti, 0.3W0.9% Nb, <0.03% C, 0.001W0.02% Mg and the balance Fe with impurities. The reason why the Ni content is restricted to the range is that superior permeability is obtd. Ti and Nb are added to increase the hardness, C is added as a deoxidizer, and Mg is added to improve the hot warkability. Accordingly, when this magnetic Ni-Fe alloy is used as a material for a recording and reproducing magnetic head for a metallic tape, the recording and reproducing characteristics are enhanced. In addition, this alloy is suitable for use as a material for a magnetic head of a computer, VTR, etc. undergoing high-speed sliding.
