Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform easily a signal analysis of a higher level, by inspecting spirally the surface of a cylindrical object and recording the obtained continuous signal with the positions being corresponded on a development plan on the surface of the object to be inspected. CONSTITUTION:A travelling amount in the axial direction of a defect detecting element 2 is synchronized with feed 15 in the x axis direction of a recording paper 20, further an angle 6 of rotation between a roll 1 and the defect detecting element 2 is synchronized with a movement 16 of a signal recording part in the y axis direction perpendicular to the x axis direction, thereby an inspection signal along the y direction is drawn. The inspection signal for length of one circumference of the roll 1 is recorded between 0 deg. and 360 deg. in the y axis direction of the recording paper 20, and the starting point of recording is returned successively for every one circumference to be recorded. The judgement of the kind, distribution and magnitude of defect parts and others become easy and a defect analysis of a higher level can be performed from the continuous signal on a development plan obtained in this way.
