Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an adhesive excellent in initial tack, heat resistance and low- temperature tack, by polymerizing a vinyl monomer in a polyurethane solution by adding an initiator in portions and adding a modified polyisocyanate compound to the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A vinyl monomer, particularly glycidyl methacrylate, is radical- polymerized in a polyurethane solution by adding an initiator (for an epoxy-containing monomer such as glycidyl methacrylate, benzoyl peroxide is not preferred but azobisisobutyronitrile is preferred) in at least two portions. During this reaction, a modified polyisocyanate compound (C) prepared by reacting a trifunctional isocyanate compound (A), e.g., trimethylolpropane-tolylene diisocyanate, with 0.2W 0.7mol, per mol compound A, of a comound (B) containing one isocyanato-reactive functional group, e.g., 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, is added. This process can provide uniform mixing as compared with a conventional method in which compound C is added just prior to use.
