Abstract
PURPOSE:To drive an electrochromic (EC) display device at low voltage by using a specified pastelike composition as an electrolyte for the device. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 provided with a display electrode 4 having an EC layer 5 is set opposingly to a substrate 2 provided with an opposing electrode 7 with a spacer 3 in-between, and an electrolyte 11 is held in the interior to form an EC display device. A proton conductive solid electrolyte such as phosphotungustic acid is mixed with about 5wt% nonaqueous electrolyte soln. prepared by dissolving about 1-3mol% lithium perchlorate in propylene carbonate, and the mixture is kneaded with about 3-10wt% water. The resulting pastelike composition is used as the electrolyte in the device.
