Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a breaking incident and to inhibit the pollution, oxidation, heat absorption, damage, etc. of a linear body by putting a metallic halide in a glass pipe and heating and drawing them. CONSTITUTION:The lower end of a low m.p. glass pipe 19 such as a lead glass pipe is formed into a circularly curved face, the upper end is kept open, and a metallic halide 20 such as TlBr, AgBr or AgBr+AgCl is put in the pipe 19. This pipe 19 is suspended in a frame 1 with holders 5, 6, and after evacuating the pipe 19 to a prescribed vacuum degree with a vacuum device 16, and inert gas is fed from a gas feeder 17. The lower end of the pipe 19 is then heated with a heating furnace 7 to melt the metallic halide 20 as well as to soften the glass, and by coiling the lower end of the pipe 19 with a coiler 18, a linear body 22 provided with a glass sheath is obtd.
