Abstract

PURPOSE:To retrieve a track securely by making a jump to the next adjacent track after tracking control becomes stable, by performing transition to the adjacent track in response to a jump pulse. CONSTITUTION:From an information signal detected by a main-beam detector 15, an address detecting circuit 46 detects the address of a track being traced. When the difference between the current address and a desired retrieved address is great, a step motor 27 is driven through a step motor controlling circuit 42 acccording to the difference for approach to the retrieved address. Then, the current address is detected again and a DC motor 25 and a jump pulse generating circuit 54 are operated according to the difference from the retrieved address to jump a beam 17 by a unit track pitch in the radius direction. At every jump, tracking control is exercised and after it becomes stable, a jump to the next track is made.
