Abstract

PURPOSE: An unneutralized phosphate ester of an organic hydroxy compound is made into a liquid film of a specific thickness and the liquid film is brought into contact with an inter gas to effect deodorization the titled compound used as a detergent or emulsifier readily and economically.
CONSTITUTION: When a phosphate ester of organic hydroxy compound is deodorized, its unneutralized phosphate ester is continuously made to flow down on a heated vertical surface so that a liquid film of 0.1W5mm thickness is formed. The temperature of the liquid film is kept at 50W250°C and the liquid film is brought into contact with an inert gas such as steam to effect the deodorization of the ester. The pressure is reduced as low as possible, preferably kept lower than 100mmHg to accelerate the deodorization rate and improve the deodorization efficiency.
EFFECT: Phosphate esters are generally unstable; however, the process according to the present invention causes no adverse effect on the composition of the phosphate ester and scarcely chemical change such as hydrolysis and thermal decomposition.
